A remarkable record in running was revealed at Kilkhampton, when Mr. George Cleave of Higher Alfardisworthy, Bradworthy, was defeated in the veterans' race by Mr. J.P. Cleverdon of Bideford. Mr. Cleave, who is 64, had won this race for 17 years in succession. (August 1946)

Several villagers have also taken part in the London marathon with some success in the early 1990's.

Paul Jennings ran in the Torbay marathon, finishing 214th out of 458. He raised £322 in sponsorship for the North Devon District Hospital. (September 1987)
